Oak Ridge Police build memorial for newborn, 'Wyatt Doe,' found along Melton Lake Greenway last week

On March 26, the body of a newborn baby was found near Melton Hill Lake. Oak Ridge Police are still investigating it.

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — The name "Wyatt" means warrior, according to Oak Ridge Police Chief Robin Smith. It's the name that the police department gave a newborn found along the Melton Lake Greenway, Baby "Wyatt" Doe.

The body was found a week earlier, and police are still investigating the incident. In the meantime, they set up a wreath as a memorial to the infant. However, Smith said that the department just wants to give the infant a proper burial.

The infant can't be buried until he is identified. So, investigators are asking people for information that could help them identify the newborn. Anyone with information can call Oak Ridge Police at (865) 425-4399, or by sending them a tip online. Information can be given anonymously.

Anyone dealing with a hidden or unintended pregnancy can surrender newborn infants, up to three days old, to a staff member at a hospital, birthing center, police station, fire station or EMS facility.

"Wyatt means warrior," Smith said during a live stream on Facebook. "To us, he's our little warrior."
